After that it was back onto the train for an hour or so ride into downtown Hiroshima.
It was dark by the time we arrived, and this camera is no good at night pictures. But here is a few from around the city on the way to the hotel.
For some reason they had a lot of these mini escalators. They were cute.
Interesting thing about Hiroshima. Often instead of crossing the road to get to the other side, you end up taking an underground path to the other side. I found this happens all over the city. Not always of course, but every now and then. Naomi said because it's safer, but I thought it was strange. And often the underground area is huge, and will branch off and lead into the basements of department stores and other places. Pretty cool.
After getting to our hotel, about a 15min or so walk from the station we dropped our stuff off and went to look for a late night dinner. Our hotel lobby was super fancy, but the rooms were rather average. I guess its just to draw you in maybe. However, it was really cheap so who can complain.
Heres a few pics from on our looking for a place to eat journey.
As you can see they had one of those super large "Tunnel of Shopping" areas that they had in Osaka as well. Not as busy, but it was 9pm so thats probably why. And we saw this cool Beatles painting that was over a store in there. They all have tea cups on their heads. Good to see they are still popular here! Actually, on TV right now there is a commercial with 4 popular boy band guys dressed up in early Beatles style running away from screaming fans the whole time. Not sure what its about..just neat.
For some reason it took forever to find somewhere to go for dinner.. Almost every restaurant was an "Izakaya" which is basically a pub..not what we wanted. Also full of smokers. You can smoke in most restaurants here..something I certainly don't miss from my childhood.
After awhile we wondered into a mall and went to a restaurant in there. They used all organic food and it was super delicious. And cheap. I had a kind of veggie stir fry with fried pork in a black vinegar sauce. Came with rice and a bowl of soup too. It was sooo good. Naomi got an avocado and veggie pasta.
For dessert we had Anmistu. 2 mochi balls, green tea icecream and read bean paste on jello. It was quite good and very sweet. We also got a Mango Lassi...mmmmm
On the way back we bought our breakfast from 711 and threw it in our fridge. We passed out pretty fast after a really long day.
