Osaka Part 3

Once you go through the big gates of the bird sanctuary you are in a room with a ton of different viewing windows, all with a different type of owl behind them. So here is a bunch of owl pictures! Not sure where they are all from, but they come from all over the world.

Once you left that room you go outside where on the left they had a pond with a bunch of penguins in it! I am curious if they are ok in such hot weather. But they seemed happy.

On the right was a much bigger pond with a large amount of different kinds of ducks in it. I presume again from all over. You could buy bird food for 1 dollar to feed them if you wanted too. Most would eat right out of your hands. They also had some Koi floating around with them too.

The next room you walk into is a room full of flowers. And gift shops.

Next up was a long room with a huge pond that was all lotus' and lily pads. At the end of the room was the most interesting part. I heard about this on TV before so was totally surprised to get to go do it. Basically little ponds you sit around. Inside are a bunch of smallfish (a bit bigger than finger length and smaller). When you put your hands or feet into the water, the fish will swarm to you and start eating the dust and dead skin cells off you. Its a riot. At first I couldn't take it because it tickled so badly. But after a bunch of attempts I finally got it (Naomi took some time too, and was squealing pretty bad at first..I have video proof).

It's such a weird feeling. Kind of like a bunch of little pieces of sandpaper rubbing you. After while it is kind of nice actually. The kids certainly love it. There was also some aussie people there, who were putting their feet into the hands only section. They got a lot of stares. I was embarrassed. If they were Japanese the staff would have told them not to do that..but it is one of those situations where Japanese for some reason wont tell them they should not be doing that. You see it a lot actually.

Next was into another large outside pond that had a slew of different birds and lots of Koi. When people were feeding them there would be a mass frenzy of fish and bird alike swarming to get the food. Quite fun to watch.

After this we were into a large with divided into a bunch of smaller section with lots of tropical birds and some Quails. You could even get a big arm protector and food to feed the Toucans (of Fruit Loops fame). I let Naomi handle that one.

They had a a falcon (or Hawk?) too, that was basically tied to his little wooden post.

That was the end of the bird trip. We grabbed lunch from their Japanese buffet (which sadly I could not gorge on like I would at home..since I was with family) that was pretty good. Here is Naomi's and our dessert. Dessert was more interesting, deep fried sugary bread, cold japanese yam (basically a french fry but sweet), green tea coated mochi cubes (way to strong for me) and some roll cake.

One last pic of a couple of neat Owls on the way out and we were off to our next adventure, of which we had no idea what it was. Probably because if we did we would have protested it. Which I will post about next!
