Food!!

After USJ we haven't done much but before went there we had a couple of family dinners so I will post pictures of the meals! They were both big multi-course meals.

The first meal was with Naomi's sisters family and her mom. It starts with a small salad, piece of cooked salmon, cooked egg with soy sauce, chestnut and fishcake.

Next was a sashimi plate. There was scallops, prawn, tuna, squid and hamachi.

Next was chawan mushi. Basically a non sweet pudding. Pretty eggy.

Next was tempura prawn, hot pepper and lotus flower.

After was miso soup, pickled vegetables and a bowl of rice.

This was dessert. A jellow like..citrus pudding. Very very good.

A great meal! Even the kids meal was amazing, I could have just had that.

The next day the whole family got together for a big meal. It was on the 25th floor of some large office building.

You get to go up an elevator which has a nice large window so you can watch yourself going up. Naomi wasn't a fan (but the kids were fine..).
Inside they had a small stone garden in the waiting room. And a shot from the window there.

First up was a meal in a box that was waiting for us when we went into our room. Kurogoma no tofu (black sesame paste and tofu), a mayo salad (almost a Japanese coleslaw) and spinach salad.

Next up was Chawan mushi again. Steamed pudding with some veggies as well.

A soybean milk skin with a chrysanthemum on top.

Next was a seafood dumpling made from crab and shrimp.

Next was a fishcake made from shrimp tempura and a hot pepper. Maybe the best tempura I ever had.

Dengaku. A glutony mochi like thing covered in green tea powder and miso, the other yuzu, citrus and miso. Very delicious! Very sweet too, almost like a dessert really.

Here was a small salad with some tempura skin on the top.

Next miso soup, pickled veggies and a bowl of rice.

Dessert was an apple cinnamon pudding and a chestnut jelly.

This was a really great meal. Sitting on the floor the whole time too, which was a first. Back was killing me! Here is a shot of our little room and then a couple more shots from the window.

Last up in this food blog is a special one. Earlier this week we went back to Kyoto for a day trip with my friend who we met before in Osaka. We ended up at a vegetarian restaurant (I didn't know till I was sitting there looking at the menu..). Actually it was really good. I got the special of the day, fried veggies with a chili mayo sauce, pickled veggies, mixed rice (brown and white) and miso soup.

Naomi had karage tofu, fried pumpkin, miso soup, mixed rice and some veggies.

Later that day we stumbled across something really special. A place called Ninja. Its a restaurant, snack shop, souvenir shop and big maze. There is also one in New York and Tokyo. All the staff are dressed up as ninjas. Of course we had to get a snack from here. They sold Japanese sweet crepes.

This was the first time we had ever seen a black crepe before, which was really cool. I got an ice cream and berry one, which also had chocolate banana, whip cream and topped with a ninja throwing star shaped cookie. Best thing ever!!
